Making up for lost time

Little Miss is better.  Not well.  Just better.  It has been a little rough around here dealing with a sick kid, especially at night.  I am not a nice momma without sleep.  I struggle more when I have expectations and they get shot down.  Bang!  Big time.  To be honest, I have actually handled it all fairly well.  Mom came back into town yesterday and gave me a few hours to go work out and take and fetch the older two from VBS.

I love that mom!

Anyhoo, I took Little Miss to Bible school today beacause she was feeling better AND because I had a load of errands to run.  I started feeling guilty about taking a puny kid but she was begging to go and I was not arguing.  I walked her up to her teacher and handed her a piece of paper with my phone number.  I explained how sick the child had been but if she did not go outside and get too wound up, she should be fine.  That sweet lady looked up at me and said, ” I am a nurse, I know what to look for.  She will be fine.” She squatted down to my 5 year old’s eye level and told her that if she started to feel bad, just tell her and Momma would be called.  With that conversation ended, I ran out that door and had 2 hours and 39 minutes of freedom.

I was thrilled.

But typically even short amounts of liberty get expensive . . .

Boy!  It felt good to buy things the kids needed and drink an unsweet tea while doing it AND not hanging onto a snotty hand or two.

When I fetched the kiddos from VBS, I found Little Miss to be in good spirits and not in the least bit puny.  (sigh of relief)

I let her go to swim lessons but she barely got in and mostly just watched.  I was more than okay with that. A friend of mine has her kids in the same swim class and we had been discussing a local peach orchard for a few days.  She declared today that she would be going after lessons and asked if we wanted to join them.

I ran home, made lunches, and ran back to lessons.  We piled 8 people in my van and headed out.  It was a nice little outing and not too strenuous on the sickly one.  We did not pick our own but decided to indulge in the yummy strawberry ice cream and peach ice cream.

We came home and rested and then met my dad and a few cousins to see Kung Fu Panda

And as if that wasn’t enough, we met my brother and the rest of his family at Chick-fil-a.  And to top it all off, because I am a great mom, I decided, Why not have a slumber party?  After all, I am exhausted as I-don’t-know-what (case in point – I can’t think) and surely Little Miss is up for some company.  So cousins Luke and Sarah came home with us and Pumpkin went home with big cousin Jordan.

On the way home I stopped for gas and decided for the first time EVER, I would answer YES to the “Do you want a car wash?” question.  I opted for the $3 wash but it was a splurge none the less.  My car was looking sort of a tannish color.  It is supposed to be black.

I forced gave meds to LIttle Miss and then we tucked them all in bed.  Ahhh!  SIlence.  Now the husband and I are about to cuddle on the couch and watch The Bucket List.  I guess that means I must fold that laundry on the couch first.  UUGH!

But wait!  I think while I am typing away in the bedroom, he is doing that.  HHMMM!  What more can I say?  The man needs more time.

I must go.  The juice from this peach is dripping down my face and making a mess.

Did I mention I bought lots and lots of peaches?  The husband is expecting a peach cobbler soon.  Not a bad trade, huh?  Laundry folded for a cobbler.  A smart man that husband of mine.

And now I’ll say goodnight with the final “fruit” of our day . . .

I wish Max lived close to this cousins! That looks like so much fun. Glad Little Miss is feeling better and enjoyed her VBS and ice-cream.
