A week. Really?

Has it really been a week since I last posted?  Time is flying.

I have lots and lots of things up in my head but they are all mumbled jumbled.  Imagine that happening in my head!

I am on a reading kick again.  The trend started when I picked up my daughter’s new book and realized that it just might be a little too deep for her.  Being a good mom, I read it purely for screening purposes, not b/c I was drawn to the subject (it is about a special needs child).  The book is Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper.  I was very, very impressed with it.  I was so touched by it and enjoyed it from a teacher’s perspective that I did something I have NEVER done.

I emailed the author.

And she emailed me right back.

I feel so….

special.

It is my prayer that this book will stir up even more empathy in my sweet little daughter’s heart (she has 20 pages left).  You should check it out for yourself.  I won’t tell you squat.  You will just have to google it.  (Just like a teacher . . . giving you homework.)

On my bedside table now is:

Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela (his autobiography)

Yes, I am sorta shocked I am reading it.  I have only had to look up 5 words in the dictionary so far.  I am on page 9.  I told you a long time ago that I was a bookworm WANNA BE!

Washington’s God by Novak

Let us see if I really read this.  Pretty sure I will have to keep the dictionary attached to the hip during that read.  Oh, how I wish I was smart.

And because I am NOT too smart, I am currently enjoying yet another novel off the shelves of our elementary school library. The topic is VERY similar to that of Out of My Mind.

I am also caught up in my Bible reading.  Yes, I am quite pleased with myself.  Of course it helps that my sweet friend is holding me accountable.  Keep it up!    The Israelites just marched around Jericho 7 days.  Too bad the main thing on my mind while reading about this event is the image of peas marching around a great big wall.  Thanks Veggie Tales!

Good thing I have plenty of books on my “to read” list.  I will report to jury duty for the first time ever tomorrow morning.  I have no idea what to expect.  I am happy to serve my country in this very miniscule way but being a teacher makes it rather difficult to have a “day off.” If I do indeed get selected then I will have to spend my evenings up at school preparing for another sub.  Oh well.  We shall see how it goes tomorrow….

Another thing spinning around in my head is the thought of the husband’s sweet grandmother.  She is not doing well at all and I fear that her days are few.  Please pray for our family, esp. my mother in law.  I don’t even want to think about this time coming for my folks.  I don’t care how old your parents are, it has to hurt.

Thanks dear internetty friends.

Jury duty – what a glamourous way to spend a Monday 😦 I hope you get selected for a really quick case or don’t get selected at all and have a nice day of reading! I was once on a trial that lasted 5 days.

But oh, do have fun! 🙂
