Love is in the air

My children are ADDICTED to the song, “Everybody” by Ingrid Michaelson.  Okay, okay, I LOVE the song too!  The song is on Ramona and Beezus and is so fun and catchy.  Obviously.

As I listened to the words carefully for the first time (to make sure it was kid friendly) I came to a very prophetic conclusion.

Yes!  Everybody needs love!!!

Yes!  Everybody wants to be loved.

Yes!  Everybody has love.

YES!!!! This is indeed about love.  But I think this song, like so many others, is missing one ingredient.  It could be so about God!  It is missing that!

You know… 1 John 7-8

“Let us love one another, for love comes from God.  Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.  Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

I reread this verse and pondered if it truly means that if you do not know God then one can’t have love.  I visited my friend, Mr. Webster, again tonight to verify his opinion.  He tends to think love is “a feeling of strong or constant regard for and dedication to someone.”

Synonyms:  affection, attachment, devotedness, devotion, fondness, passion, appreciate, cherish, prized, treasure, value

Well, I have great regards for Mr. Webster but I will go with the greatest author tonight and vote for “GOD IS LOVE.”  And it makes sense to me that one will most certainly lack LOVE if they do not know God.  True, I believe all humans are capable of giving and receiving affection, devotion, passions, etc, etc. but to truly experience all of LOVE then one must know HIM.

And that, my internet friends, is what I want for my children.  I want them to KNOW Love and then automatically live a life of Love through the Spirit of the Lord that lives in them.

So……here is hoping to see more and more of what love is….

“Love is patient, love is kind, love does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrong.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails.”   1 Corinthians 13:4-7

I am thinking I better truly pray for this one every minute of the day!  Can you imagine a house full of THREE children who are all of the above?  (Or maybe two parents?)  That is a home worth striving for.

What a loving God we have, and how much love we share as a family! Thank you for sharing these thoughts.
